General Description
Body robust, compressed; lips thick, rubbery; lower pectoral-fin rays thickened, some slightly elongated. Body pale reddish-silver with 7-8 wide brown or reddish-brown bands crossing sides, underside pale; bands become indistinct in large adults. To 1 m.
Biology
This commercially important species is often seen sheltering in small groups in caves and under overhangs.
Habitat
Sheltered and exposed coastal reefs, in caves and under overhangs, in depths of 0-50 m.
