General Description
Tail and tail base short, last dorsal-fin ray connected to hind part of tail base, or to base of tail fin by a membrane; segmented dorsal fin rays 3, last two rays widely separated from preceding; orbital tentacle short. Colour variable, green, purple, or reddish brown with 7-8 dark saddles along back extending onto dorsal fin, with large darker spots, bars radiating from eyes and a large white or silver oblong spot behind eye; second dorsal fin with dark patches interspaced by transparent sections. To 9 cm.

Habitat
Amongst small brown algae on coastal reefs, in depths of 0-10 m.
