General Description
Body moderately long, robust, with long based dorsal and anal fins; jaw teeth fused into a beak. Juveniles and females greenish to brownish with darker and lighter markings forming bars and broken stripes. Larger males brightly coloured, with bright blue lines and markings, and long anterior dorsal-fin spines. To 30 cm.
Biology
Occasionally seen among kelp just inside Port Phillip Bay.
Habitat
Shallow coastal reefs with abundant macroalgae, in depths of 1-25 m.
