General Description
Body deep, compressed, depth about half standard length; gill cover with coarsely serrated bony ridges. Silvery-red, with thick red stripes, lateral line white, head red with a white band on gill cover, fins red with white anterior margins, eye red. To 46 cm.

This species is fished commercially.
Habitat
On exposed reefs, usually in caves and beneath ledges, in depths of 11-260 m.
