General Description
Body compressed, moderately deep, snout pointed, tail base without lateral keels; head and trunk covered with many small pores; outer margin of 2nd dorsal fin deeply concave; pectoral fin of moderate size, not reaching anus. Metallic silvery blue to grey on back, paling below, belly silvery white, head darker grey brown above and around snout and eye, creating the appearance of a "mask". To 66 cm.

This species is commercially fished.
Habitat
Usually in deeper offshore waters but also entering estuaries, in depths of 3-650 m.
